Kitwe’s ethos is based on our previous experience prior to 2005 in which our team members were instrumental in developing ‘partnering in the construction industry’. This started with a single partnering arrangement in 1994 with BHP at the Point of Ayr in North Wales where, as the main force in David McLean Contractors, we partnered with AOC and BHP to help provide a £500 million gas and oil terminal. This was a ‘cost plus’ contract working on an integrated team basis with the overall objective of providing gas on line for a deadline date. This led to one of the first true partnering deals with Shell UK providing the building and civil engineering works on all their petrol stations throughout the UK from 1996, working solely with David McLean Contractors and reaping all the cost saving benefits on a scheme, starting off as a £56 million contract over a three year period.
As a team we pushed this process out and partnered with Barclays Bank, RBS/Natwest and various other retail clients on framework agreements.
When it comes to experience and knowledge of “true partnering” then Kitwe’s management is second to none.
